The Middle School Minute
Tech students in eight grade have been working on podcasts. The hope was (and is) to produce a student run radio podcast biweekly. For a practice podcast, students chose a topic that they thought would be of interest to other students. They used Moodle to submit topics, script drafts and final scripts, getting quick feedback all along the way. They then uploaded these podcasts to a Moodle glossary where they are available to all students in the Moodle class. Students will be reviewing a podcast and applying our rubric to it, providing constructive feedback to their peers.

Eighth Graders Online
Eight grade tech students are learning that school just doesn’t end at 2:25! Those taking tech are using Moodle, an online content management system, to access resources, rubrics, and project descriptions. They also have access to a messaging system that allows them to contact group partners and me at any time of the day from any location. While the messages aren’t in “real time” like IM, they make communication between class periods much easier. This system also allows me to give them quick feedback - with a graded rubric, inline commenting in writing pieces, or in a private message. So far it is working well. Check out our virtual classroom at Eighth Grade Tech. You can log in as a guest and see most of what is available for students.
